LA (and SF... erm... And NY) has some amazing bands. And they seem to play pretty much every night here. So here's a few I thought worthy of documenting. Maybe you know them already. In which case, well done you. Now go and read a proper blog.
This is Randy from No Age enjoying a tasty noodle. Solo.
This is a band called Rare Grooves (below), who I'd never heard of before. I think they're pretty new (maybe?)... Pretty young anyway. They were amazing. My friend said like Minutemen meets the Beatles. And she wasn't far off. And the Baths. They're from San Francisco. But I figured I may as well add a picture of them playing in LA. And that's about it.
This is Matt Jones. He lives in San Francisco in a beautiful house full of amazing musical stuff.
And pictures of penises.
But I digress...
He and his fiancée Jenny emit almost worryingly good vibes at all times. They took me under their wing and over to Berkeley University to see their housemates the Baths play having known me barely a couple of hours. Total gems. And the Baths ruled too. I think they're my new favourite band. Check out their tunes here.
Matt and Jenny Jones do their own band called Jonesin'... Which is basically the greatest band name ever. From the brief time I spent in San Francisco, life did actually feel almost as carefree as this video. So cheers guys. Keep on Jonesin'.
Every home should have one. A place for sipping a beer, doing fun activities, watching the world go by, throwing parties... The UK would be a finer place with porches. Portland excels at them. Porches and corn dogs.
Guy on the right there is Robert Khasho. He does cool art with light boxes. Click here for his stuff.
Vegas. What a shit hole. But if you're gonna get married and have one final fling, I guess that city is the place to do it right. Congratulations Sean and Suze. It was loads of fun. Now let's never go back there again.
The Crap Pack...
This is Eddie Powers. Arguably the most good-time Elvis impersonator in Vegas. He busts into wedding receptions, goes pretty wild, sings badly then sticks around just getting shitfaced. Pretty funny job to have. He claimed to have a 1,525 game winning streak at pool. Seemed to be playing by "Elvis rules" though. All the time. Well, Elvis does rule.
Ok. This blog isn't Facebook. There was more though. So much more... But it stays in Vegas (and probably on Facebook).
